How to use the VOSOTROS form of the subject pronoun

**** This information is taken from the website: www.braser.com

What it the vosotros verb form in Spanish?

A grammatical explanation
Vosotros, in grammatical terms, is second person plural familiar form of the verb. It occupies the fifth position on our verb paradigms (see the paradigm and examples at the end of this article).

But when do you use it?
If you already know something about the difference between 'tú' and 'usted', you can make the same comparison between 'vosotros' and 'ustedes'. In very broad terms, 'tú' is used for people you are friends with or on a first-name basis with, and 'usted' is for someone you might call 'Mr.' or 'Mrs.' in English. This is frequently called 'informal you' (tú) and formal you' (usted). Vosotros and ustedes are exactly the same thing, but in the plural form - that is, vosotros is 'informal you plural' and ustedes is 'formal you plural'.

Geographic usage
The vosotros form is used on a daily basis in Spain and rarely even heard in the rest of Spanish speaking world outside of church and in books and films that come from Spain, although people in other Spanish-speaking countries do understand it. Spanish speakers outside of Spain only use the 'ustedes' form for both formal and informal you plural.

Spanish POP QUIZ,

Students have been studying the SER and ESTAR verbs and how to used them. I will give them a pop quiz today to see if they understand how to use it.

Homework: March 2, 2010

Create 12 sentences using the adjectives given in class, connecting them with SER and ESTAR.

Example:
SER: Yo (subject Proniount) Soy (verb:SER) Mexicana (adjective)
ESTAR: Yo (SP) Estoy (verb: estar) triste (adjective)

Translations:
SER: I (sp) am (verb) Mexican (adj)
ESTAR: I (sp) am (verb) Sad (adj.)

Estar is only used when referring to a feeling. ESTAR is a temporary verb, you used it at the moment and how you are feeling.

SER is a permanent verb and it's used when you are talking about time, money and adjectives.

Ser vs Estar

Spanish Class has been working on two different verbs: SER & Estar
They are both Present tense and irregular verbs.

SER: soy, eres, es, somos, sois, son

ESTAR: estoy, estas, esta, estamos, estais, esta

Subject Pronoun: yo, tu, el/ella, nosotros, vosotros, ustedes

Adjective: describing a noun.

Last Minute Projects

Students who did not present nor turn in their projects have until March 5, 2010, to turn in their poster (counts as their presentation) and their paper.
